Boat Speed and Power Estimates For Planing Monohulls

Calculated estimates of maximum boat speed, or total power required, are for a planing monohull with approximately 16 degree deadrise mid-waterline to transom. Your boat may be faster or slower depending on hull form, deadrise, load, LCG, waterline length, waterline beam, and other factors. Estimates only apply to planing monohulls with power to weight ratio permitting 24+ knots.

For deep-V monhulls, subtract one knot for every two degrees of deadrise above sixteen degrees. Hulls with deadrise angles less than sixteen degrees may be faster than shown in the calculation. Performance estimates for catamarans and larger semi-planing monohulls should be evaluated using other methods.
